FAQs
Q - Should I buy California Whey or California Whey Isolate, which is the best?
A - California Whey is made from high quality milk from California Farms dairy, it has more than 24 grams of protein per 30 grams serving (natural). However, whey concentrates will always have some amount of fats and carbs (lactose) which is natural milk sugar. On the other hand California Whey Isolate is a more premium quality protein that goes through Cross Flow Micro filtration to remove additional fats and lactose and provides more than 90% protein i.e., you will easily get 27-28 grams of protein per 30 grams serving with near zero fats and carbs but Whey isolate is tad expensive. Because they go through additional lactose filtering process. Isolate is suitable for athletes in performance sports, bodybuilders on calorie deficit diet or people who are lactose intolerant. That said, our California Whey Concentrate is way ahead of some of the Whey Isolates offered by some well known and heavily marketed brands in the country.
Q - What are the best times to supplement with Whey?
A - To be honest..it really depends on your workout schedule.
For instance, if you workout first thing in the morning, you should ideally consume 1-1.5 (30-40 grams) servings of whey 30-45 mins before your workout. You should take 1-1.5 (30-40 grams) serving of whey immediately within 5-10 mins after your workout. Depending upon your target protein intake for the day you may include whey in your breakfast and/or evening snack.
If you workout in the evening and you had a nice meal 2-3 hours before your workout, you don't have to take whey before your workout but you should supplement immediately after your workout. Note, in this case to reach your target protein intake you may consider taking whey early morning once and or/with breakfast.
To summarize, if you are looking to increase lean muscle you will eat 2 grams of protein/kilo body weight, you will ensure your protein sources are clean and rich (complete all 20 amino acids present) like whey, eggs whites, lean meat, milk. 3 servings of whey in a day will definitely be much convenient.
Q - Should I take casein or whey or both? Is casein better than whey?
A - Casein and Whey are two completely different types of protein with a common source of origin that is milk. Milk is curdled to make cheese and in the process the liquid portion of milk is taken out and the curds are processed further to make cheese. The liquid portion goes through number of drying processes to finally become whey in powdered form. The solid portion of milk is dried to make caseinates (commonly know as Casein). The major difference between whey and casein is their absorption rate in the body. Whey is quickly digested the protein (amino acids) spike is shorter and greater. This is ideally suited for pre and post workout so that the body can take the advantage of the greater and shorter protein spike that last for nearly an hour depending upon the amount of whey taken.
Casein on the other hand is a slow digesting protein, provides a sustained release of protein (amino acids) to the body for longer period of time, so there is no spike it is more of a curve that lasts 3-4 hours. Because of the sustained release your body retains a high amount of nitrogen from casein thus remains in anabolic (muscle building) state for a longer time. It is ideally to be taken between major meals and before bed. Can be really beneficial as a pre-workout but take it at least an hour before workout and the results will surely impress you.
A Casein and Whey blend is a great choice during the day or even before bed especially when on a low calorie diet.
Q- Why do i need to use Creatine Monohydrate?
There is no hard and fast rule to use Creatine Monohydrate supplement. But if you are there in the weight room my guess is you are looking to increase lean muscle and lose fat. Creatine Monohydrate has distinctive well researched benefits. Adequate Creatine Monohydrate supplementation increases available ATP in the body, ATP is the primary source of energy for the muscles. During strenuous lifting sessions the stored ATP in muscles runs out pretty quickly and body's capability to create ATP through anaerobic workout is limited hence increased ATP via Creatine supplementation specifically benefits heavy lifting provides extra energy and strength during lifting so you can press/pull more weights for longer duration. Ultimately heavy lifting increases more protein synthesis and more muscle mass through recovery.
Q- Why do I find your whey protein concentrate flavored bland in taste compared to other brands?
At first, you will find California Whey flavored version bland compared to other brands. That is simply because your taste buds are adjusted to the very sweet synthetic taste of common whey brands. Artificial thickeners and sweeteners are heavily used in these products and that is why the sweetness and richness is too high. As we do not use artificial sweeteners and thickeners and our natural sweeteners stevia used is very low and gives mild sweetness (purposefully kept mild), most people will find the taste bland initially. But the good thing is your taste buds get adjusted to the mild taste in 4-5 uses.
